Por exemplo: They called up the women; They called the women up; They called her up. (Eles telefonaram para a mulher).
nesse caso, os verbos são chamados de prepositional verbs (verbos preposicionados) e geralmente não aceitam complemento (objetos). Ou seja, eles não permitem a colocação do objeto entre o verbo e a preposição. Por exemplo: They called on the women; They called on her (Eles visitaram a mulher).
Existem três tipos de locuções verbais que causam muita confusão nos aprendizes da língua inglesa. Ou seja, além dos phrasal verbs, temos os prepositional verbs (inseparáveis) e ainda os multi-word verbs.
Nesse último caso, eles são também chamados de phrasal-prepositional verbs ou three-word verbos. Assim, os multi-word verbs são locuções formadas por três palavras: um verbo, um advérbio e uma preposição.
Exemplos:
Phrasal verbs: Get out (sair, livrar-se de algo)
Prepositional verbs: Get over (superar, livra-se de)
Multi-word verbs: Get away with (safar-se)
